About the Betsson buy up

GiG is a Scandinavian brand, listed on stock exchanges in Stockholm and Oslo. Betsson has purchased Zecure Gaming Ltd, which is one of the brand’s subsidiaries. All of the online activities and gaming licences at Zecure will transfer over to Betsson, and this will help ensure the Betsson casino brand is well placed in a number of key global markets. The acquisition will also see Betsson continue to consolidate their position in key markets and open up even more opportunities.

Pontus Lindwall is the President and CEO at Betsson, and commented: “Betsson’s ambition is to outgrow the market in the long term, organically and through acquisitions. This acquisition confirms that Betsson is a driver of the consolidation of the market. We believe this deal offers a good opportunity for Betsson to consolidate, at good value, where we can create synergies and apply our core B2C skills and marketing insights to scale these assets to their true potential.”

It’s felt this acquisition will help Betsson increase reach and expansion, with likely moves into Spain and Croatia.

Cost to Betsson

The combined revenues from the casino brands that Betsson acquired amounted to €77 million in 2019, and the casino paid €22.3 million to buy into the group. The purchase sees Betsson making a move into the B2B sector, and includes a 30-month platform service agreement with GiG.

Mr Lindwall said: “The agreement with GiG further strengthens and expands Betsson’s outreach and growth potential for its proprietary sportsbook and payments platforms in the B2B market. As one of the largest European operators, Betsson is well-positioned to continue building on its strategic position.”
